  • Volkswagen
    MediaCom
    Volkswagen of America has consolidated its media buying duties with MediaCom. The agency bested incumbent MPG for the account, estimated at $430 million.
  • Various
    KSL
    KSL won three accounts in January. Western Union, valued at $30 million, consists of national TV buying. Incumbent MindShare continues to handle planning. Turtle Wax, a $10 million planning/buying account, was previously handled by Horizon Media. Lastly, Borders, a $15 million planning/buying account, was previously handled by Crispin Porter + Bogusky (CPG). CPG continues to handle creative.
  • Midas
    Carat and DDB
    Carat was named the media planning and buying agency for Midas Canada, effective in April. DDB Canada picked up creative. Incumbent agency Academie-Ogilvy will continue to work on marketing strategies, creative, and media in Quebec. Spending was not released.
  • Mattel
    In Review
    Mattel has placed its estimated $275 million media planning account in review.
  • Mitsubishi
    Deutsch
    Incumbent Deutsch Los Angeles has abruptly dropped out of Mitsubishi Motors North America's review for the company's estimated $200 million account. The agency didn't see pursuing the business as "a long-term, financially sound relationship."
  • Match.com
    Hanft Unlimited
    Match.com has retained Hanft Unlimited for a strategic, advertising, and publishing assignment. The company previously worked with Match.com on a project basis for several months. The project will involve all three business units of Hanft Unlimited: Fishtank Consulting, for business and brand strategy, as well as consumer insights; Hanft Raboy & Partners for online and offline advertising creative; and Garvey Publishing for content development on the Match.com Web site. Mullen continues to serve as Match.com’s media and public relations agency of record. The account is valued at $25 million.

    BBDO
    Dial has selected BBDO, Chicago as its creative agency of record. BBDO will develop advertising for Dial's personal care, laundry care, and home care brands. GSD&M previously handled the account, estimated at $35 million.
  • Payless
    In Review
    Six agencies remain in contention for Payless ShoeSource's estimated $60 million creative account. They are Saatchi & Saatchi, The Kaplan Thaler Group, Goodby Silverstein & Partners, Martin/Williams, BBDO, and Cramer-Krasselt. Joanne Davis Consulting is handling the review.
  • Dish Network
    Publicis
    Dish Network has awarded Publicis Seattle creative chores on its account, estimated at more than $100 million, according to industry sources.
