MySpace's Defriending Spree

Here's a not so unexpected development in the world of online media. MySpace has parted ways with yet another senior employee. Heidi Browning, SVP of insights and planning at MySpace, just announced her resignation.

Other recent disappearing acts include SVP of product management Tom Andrus; MySpace international head head Travis Katz; MySpace Music SVP of strategy and global marketing Jamie Kantrowitz; and President of Fox Digital Media Dan Fawcet.

Working closely with MySpace ad sales boss Jeff Berman, Browning's responsibilities included working "hand-in-hand" with agencies and brands advertising on the social network.

"People love her," a source told Silicon Alley Insider. During a 2008 IAB conference, Browning apparently told a panel "you can do a focus group every day for every demographic across the country and not get a fraction of the insights that we get each day from our users."

Perhaps Browning's willingness to go jobless should be seen as a positive sign; a show of optimism, at least on her part, that the economy is headed in the right direction. On the other hand, it might just be another ominous warning of MySpace's looming fate; a once burning star burning out before our eyes.
