Twitter Doubles Down On Promoted Tweets On Mobile Apps

Promoted tweets used by such brands as Dell and McDonald’s to make sure their posts are well-read will show up soon in the main page of Twitter’s iPhone and Android applications.

Identifiable by a small yellow logo, the promoted tweets will join the usual list of updates. A small group of users will test the launch before it is rolled out over the next few months.

More than half of Twitter’s over 100m active users tweet from mobile devices, the company says. Social networks and other digital media companies are grappling with a rapid shift of users to mobile, where it has historically proved harder to generate revenue from advertising than on desktop computers.
