TWC Subscribers Get Viacom, HBO Go Everywhere; Comcast Cans Data Cap

It was a big week for Time Warner Cable and TV Everywhere.

First, the cable TV provider announced it had reached an agreement with Viacom that would enable it to stream Viacom shows on tablets, notebook computers, smartphones and other devices. The companies had been locked in a 13-month court dispute about whether or not TWC had the right to show Viacom content via its streaming services.

Then on Thursday, TWC added support for HBO Go on the Xbox, Roku, and Samsung Connected TVs, joining the likes of Verizon, AT&T, and Dish Network in providing TV Everywhere support for HBO Go.

Separately, Comcast on Friday said it was getting rid of its 250 GB monthly data cap. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that Comcast Internet subscribers will be able to stream and download as much content as they wish from now on. Rather, the cable and Internet provider said it would begin testing different plans in different markets that charge customers based on usage, instead of cutting them off once they surpass their monthly limit.
