YouTube to Overhaul Comments Section
During the Q&A portion of a YouTube developer session at I/O, Google’s annual YouTube developers’ conference, Dror Shimshowitz, a YouTube product head, revealed that the video-sharing giant is working on fixing its comment system, which has been well-documented as being home to some of the worst comments on the Internet.
“Comments are kind of the Wild West of video” and can be turned off, Shimshowitz said, but he was quick to point out that Google doesn’t like it when people do that, because it cuts off the sense of community. With that in mind, “we’re working on some improvements to the comment system, so hopefully we’ll have an update on that in the next few months,” he said.
Wired tried to follow up, but the company would not comment further.
