Makers of music apps have focused their attention on delivery - on serving as a hyper-intuitive DJ for their listeners, so to speak. Then there’s Music Mastermind and Chillingo, creators of Zya, which have taken an entirely different path. Allowing music fans to lay down rudimentary tracks (beats, hooks and vocals) as well as mash together existing hits, Zya is one part game and one part creative engine. The app is as fun as it is simple to manipulate, a revelation within a category devoted mostly to curation.
