AOL's Memo To Partners: Restructure May Be 'Uncomfortable' At First

AOL is reorganizing its sales structure, which includes at least 150 layoffs, as it continues to shift toward programmatic advertising.

“They’re keeping most account managers, while firing many sellers, leaving the account managers vulnerable to abuse in the operations group, with no sales management behind them any more. Clients will be enraged that this team is left to pick up the pieces,” a source told Business Insider last week.

Business Insider also received a copy of a memo AOL’s Bob Lord, global CEO of the platforms unit, sent to advertising clients this week.

“In it he explains how AOL has developed a ‘multidisciplinary team structure’ that will help clients ‘navigate industry disruption more proactively and holistically,’” writes Business Insider.

I realise that this change may mean a shift in the core AOL team on your business and that may initially feel uncomfortable; however, please know that your needs are at the heart of this transformation,” the memo reads.
