'Allure' EIC Lee Snags Conde Nast Employees For New Edit Team

The new Allure editor-in-chief Michelle Lee named a new leadership team for the publication; all come from other Condé Nast brands.

Lee, a former Nylon EIC and CMO, reached out to an old colleague, Renee Rupcich, who previously worked at Domino and Men’s Vogue, and named her design director.

Amanda Meigher, who most recently served as managing editor at Teen Vogue, has been appointed managing editor at Allure. Rachael Wang, a well-known fashion stylist who has held positions at Glamour and Style.com, has joined as fashion director.

Jeremy Allen, who has held positions at Bloomberg, GQ and Vogue, has been named senior photo editor.

All of the appointments take effect immediately.

Lee stated that the new team will focus on making Allure’s content more “approachable, enjoyable and empowering for our audience.”

These appointments come just after Allure cut about 15 senior-level staff on Friday, WWD reports, including Paul Cavaco, the well-known creative director.

In December, Allure founding editor-in-chief Linda Wells was let go, and Lee was ushered in by Condé Nast to take the helm.

As Publishers Daily previously reported, Wells held the position for 24 years, since the founding of the magazine in 1991. She remains on the masthead as "founding editor."

The move signaled big changes coming to Allure, most likely developing now with the new leadership team.

Condé Nast president Bob Sauerberg stated that with Lee's hire, "we begin a new phase of innovation for the brand," adding that Lee's appointment paves the way "for the next wave of consumers who crave interactive beauty content."

In an email to staff, Sauerberg said that Lee will focus on “reimagining the brand for a new millennial audience." Lee’s background in digital publishing suggests the publication will focus on its digital presence with vigor.

In November, Allure saw a 39% increase in unique visitors compared to a year ago. In addition, audiences spent more time on the site, with an improvement of 71% year-over-year in total minutes.
