'Entertainment Weekly' To Host Con-X Fan Experience At Comic-Con International

Time Inc.’s Entertainment Weeklyannounced today that it will host a new fan experience called “Con-X" at Comic-Con International in San Diego.

EW has been a part of Comic-Con for the past nine years, but this is the first time the brand will have a consumer-facing opportunity. Con-X is part of EW’s “fan-first” approach at the convention. It will collaborate directly with Comic-Con International to offer attendees the experience from July 21-24, 2016.

Con-X will take place at Embarcadero Marina Park North, with a multi-function stage surrounded by an activation environment where fans can “relax, refresh and recharge" with different activities, according to a statement from Entertainment Weekly.

The space will have an area where fans can create custom, limited edition T-shirts, participate in trivia events, repair costumes, have access to several photo opportunities and relax and eat from food trucks in shaded green outdoor areas.

Christy Bellina, associate publisher of marketing for EW, told Publishers Daily that they are currently working on getting Con-X sponsor partners.

“Every partner that is coming in is geared toward fan-friendly activations,” she said. “All the programming is geared towards giving back to the fans and giving them something additive to what Comic-Con is giving to them.”

EW’s partners will also do some “food-related” events, she said. About 150,000 copies of the magazine’s Comic-Con special issue will be handed out and available at Con-X.

At night, Con-X’s concert production stage will feature live music and DJs. Bellina suggested that EW may show a film or “Comic-Con centric TV show.” There will also be an area dedicated for people over 21 to keep the space family-friendly.

EW's Con-X site will accept badge-holding attendees on a first-come, first-served basis.
