The New York Daily News is printing 1 million copies of a special section to commemorate its 100th anniversary.

The section was sent to subscribers on Sunday, June 23, and is also inserted into editions of the Daily News this week, on newsstands now.

Newsies in “traditional outfits” will be distributing the section Wednesday afternoon at Grand Central Station, Penn Station, Port Authority, Union Square and Staten Island Ferry.

The 120-page print section, also available online, includes the history of the Daily News, the first U.S. tabloid newspaper. 

Since its first issue was published in 1919, the Daily News has produced over 36,000 editions.

The commemorative section features iconic photography, covers, columns and news stories from the publication's last century. 

“This is a celebration of our past, even as we are very focused on the future,” stated Terry Jimenez, CFO at parent Tribune Publishing.

Memorable covers include “the stock market crash of 1929, the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, victory in Europe against Axis forces in 1945, a man on the moon in 1969, President Ford telling the city to 'Drop Dead' in 1975, the Yankees 'team of the century' honors in 1999 with another World Series win, the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers on 9/11 and the blackout of 2003,” writes editor-in-chief Robert York, in a memo regarding the newspaper's anniversary.

The Daily News' website is also promoting 100 free days of unlimited digital access when a user signs up for a subscription, available until June 25.

The New York Yankees are also part of the 100th anniversary celebration. A commemorative Yankees poster will be available for the first 40,000 attendees to enter Yankee Stadium at the June 26 home game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
