Iowa County Loses A Long-Time Weekly Newspaper

The Anamosa Journal-Eureka, a weekly that has been serving Jones County, Iowa since 1857, is being shuttered.

Thursday’s edition was its final one unless a buyer comes forward.

“The Jones County area is a little farther from our core market in Dubuque, making it more difficult to manage and reducing the efficiencies needed to operate in today’s media environment,” says Bob Woodward, recent vice president of Woodward Community Media, according to cbs2iowa.com.

Woodward adds, “Financially, we’ve also lost a significant amount of money, so it was not in a sustainable situation. This is a difficult but necessary step in order for us to remain viable as an independent local media company.“
