Clickpicks: Best Sites for eNewsletters

Useful, timely information delivered to your inbox. You have too much email and not enough time to sort through it all, right? Most of it is nonsense anyway, you say. Well, not quite. Here are a few email newsletters that provide media professionals with a great deal of useful, timely and important information. However, if you’re not willing to part with any of that precious inbox space, the same information is available on the respective websites. Iconocast (www.iconocast.com) is a weekly from WebAttack! guru Michael Tchong that helps you master the fast-moving field of Internet marketing without visiting a large number of sites or reading a bunch of nonsense. Topics include Internet advertising, market research and e-commerce. ChannelSeven.com (www.channelseven.com) delivers high-quality news, research, and commentary about Internet marketing and advertising to your inbox daily, but the information is also on the site. Davenetics (www.davenetics.com) is a daily newsletter from the Internet Advertising Bureau that features quick blurbs on the latest web-related news and links to full stories from a broad selection of sources such as zdnet.com, wirednews.com, nytimes.com, msnbc.com, and thestandard.com. Internet.com’s Internet Advertising Report (www.internet.com) is daily newsletter that contains mostly short news stories and rewritten press releases, but is a great source for staying on top of the latest online advertising happenings. Audio Graphics–Internet Statistics (www.audiographics.com) is a daily compilation of current Internet statistics and broadcast advertising articles affecting radio ad sales and television advertising from sources such as Cnet, The Standard and Media Central. The format of the site is flawed but the content is excellent. Brand Era Times (www.brandera.com) is based in Canada and is a weekly compilation of articles from scores of different U.S. and world magazines, newspapers, and online publications. Each story is condensed down to the essentials. They’re “like Cliffs Notes for advertising, creative, and marketing professionals.” You can even submit your own articles. The Standard (www.theindustry standard.com) offers eighteen daily and weekly newsletters. Two favorites: “The Daily News,” which is a snapshot of the top stories affecting the Internet Economy; and “The Metrics Report,” which is the weekly barometer of key indicators affecting the industry—numbers, research statistics, raw data and analysis. Broadcasting & Cable Online (www.broadcastingcable.com) is an online version of the print magazine that covers virtually every TV station, every major market radio station, major cable operations, and all key regulations and legislators. There are two sections: “Today’s Update” includes an Online Daily, Classifieds, Station Sales, People, Policy Briefing, and an Industry Calendar; “This Week’s Magazine” includes separate sections for Cable, Broadcast and Internet, and weekly Nielsen ratings. Most of the content is available at no charge to non-subscribers. Media Life Magazine (www.medialifemagazine.com) offers daily coverage of the latest happenings in the media industry—both traditional and online. Offers well-researched stories and features, weekly subscriber polls and Q&As with media bigshots and lots more. Digitrends (www.digitrends.com) has a daily e-newsletter that covers online advertising and issues affecting it with regular columns and features as well as—their most valuable service—quick synopses of the latest industry events. MediaPost (www.mediapost.com), the companion website to this magazine, also provides a variety of e-newsletters to its members. Among the daily and weekly offerings, “The MediaPost MONITOR” is an in-depth feature; “Just an Online Minute...” is dedicated to online advertising; “MediaDailyNews” highlights the most important media happenings every weekday; and “Research Brief” provides daily data of interest. — Anya Khait
