Some companies have pulled back from using analytics for more than basic metrics because they only see marginal results and it costs too much. However, data driven-organizations can compete more effectively, especially when they tie the information to SEO.

It requires a few key steps, however. For starters, it requires putting in place the systems and technology to collect the data on an ongoing basis. It also requires you to hire people who can decide what metrics are important, gather the data, and then analyze it. Pay attention to current events that can drive traffic to your site. Then be prepared to act on what you learn, even if it means changes in organizational policies or structure.
