  • Starcom MediaVest Group's (SMG) multicultural division Tapestry has named L. RENEE RICHARDSON director of African American markets. She is a 15-year media veteran who has worked for Starcom and Starlink, both divisions of SMG. Richardson will educate and promote the power of the African American marketplace and assist with new business development.

  • Horizon Media announced that DEBBIE SKLAR has joined the firm as a group planning supervisor, heading up one of the two planning department groups in New York. ERIC RABEI has also joined the agency as a media planner. Sklar, who will oversee the agency’s Ace Hardware, A&E, David’s Bridal, Golden Corral, and Mutual of Omaha accounts, joins Horizon from Media Partnership where she was the planning director. At Media Partnership, Sklar supervised the media-planning department on accounts such as Meineke Car Care Centers, Office Max, and Bloomingdales. Rabei previously worked at Mediaedge:cia in New York where he was a media planner on the Colgate Palmolive account. Prior to Mediaedge, Rabei was an assistant media planner at the Media Planning Group working on the Procter & Gamble, GlaxoSmithKine, and Novartis accounts.

  • Traditional Home magazine, published by Meredith Corporation, announced new appointments to its advertising sales team. NANCY MORS-RAMOS has been named West coast manager; LORRI DAY has been named Midwest manager; and ELIZABETH SMYTH has been promoted to account manager. Mors-Ramos comes from Hearst, where she served as the West coast advertising sales manager for Redbook and Victoria magazines. Before joining Traditional Home, Day served as senior account manager at Meredith Corporation's Country Home. Previously, Day was Midwest manager for Woman's Day Special Interest Publications at Hachette Filipacchi. Prior to her appointment as account manager, Smyth served as national direct response account manager at Traditional Home.

  • Time Warner Inc. has appointed LISA QUIROZ, publisher of the company's People en Espanol magazine, to the newly created position of vice president, corporate responsibility at Time Warner. Quiroz will be responsible for overseeing all of Time Warner's corporate-based public service initiatives, including its activities in the areas of arts and culture, community relations, volunteerism, and literacy and education.

  • Digital marketing company PointRoll has hired ROGER JEHENSON as vice president of business development/publisher relations and JOY WHEELER as vice president for channel development for PointRoll's Yahoo! relationship. During Jehenson's three years as director of strategic sales in the Technology Solutions division at DoubleClick, he worked with clients such as Sony, Primedia, The Washington Post, and Citicorp. Most recently, he founded and was President of the consulting firm American Revenue Consulting. Wheeler also worked at DoubleClick as director of global accounts for the Tech Solutions Division, managing domestic and international accounts including TerraLycos, Alta Vista, WashingtonPost.com and Newsweek Interactive, and CNN. Prior to DoubleClick, she spent more than five years at General Electric.

  • JUDITH ROTKER has been promoted from senior vice president, director of operations for iDeutsch and directDeutsch to senior vice president, director of administration and policy for Deutsch NY. Rotker joined Deutsch in 1999 as senior vice president, director of operations for directDeutsch.

  • Also at Deutsch NY, LEE LODES has joined the agency as senior vice president, group account planning director and JURENE FREMSTAD has been elevated from vice president, account planner to senior vice president, group account planning director. Lodes will be working on Bank of America and Fremstad is currently working on Tylenol. Lodes was most recently a group account director at Interbrand, where he was responsible for managing client relationships, brand/co-branding strategy development, and corporate identity for brands such as IBM, BankOne, ING, and Ameritrade. Fremstad joined Deutsch in 1999, and has worked on Almay, Revlon, Pfizer, Tommy Hilfiger, and LensCrafters.

  • Newsweek has shuffled its marketing deck, promoting PATRICK HAGERTY to the post of U.S. publisher. Hagerty, formerly the magazine's associate publisher, joined the company in 2002 from Primedia. Newsweek also announced that Detroit sales manager STEPHEN DOOLEY has been promoted to Detroit advertising director, from sales manager. Dooley will also manage the magazine's rep firm in Canada. Lastly, RONALD GOLMINAS has joined the magazine's Chicago office as a sales rep. Golminas comes to Newsweek from Better Homes and Gardens.

  • Initiative announced that LEAH GROSS has joined the company as vice president, corporate communications. Gross will manage the company's corporate communications programs for the United States. For the past two years, Gross ran her own communications firm, KLG Communications.

  • Paul Schultz Advertising has promoted AMBER CHRISTIANSEN to assistant account executive, from account coordinator. Christiansen’s account service responsibilities include Dairy Queen, Do it Best Corp., and Marriott Louisville Downtown.

  • FINDWHAT.COM, a developer and provider of performance-based marketing services for the Internet, announced that ANNE HRUBALA has been appointed director of agency relations. Hrubala joined FindWhat.com in May 2003, having previously worked for companies such as ABC Radio and Clear Channel, and 24/7 Media.

  • DAPHNE WILLIAMS MOWATT has joined E. Morris Communications (EMC) as account supervisor of client services. Mowatt is responsible for the day-to-day management and growth of the Tyson Foods account. Prior to joining EMC on a full-time basis, she served as a freelance account manager, assisting in the development of advertising strategies for Nestlé and Illinois Bureau of Tourism.

  • Saatchi & Saatchi Los Angeles has named LYNNE HARRIS BERNSTEIN as human interests director. Bernstein will oversee staffing and communications for the 350-person agency. She will also serve as a member of the Saatchi Los Angeles Leadership Board. The agency also named JOHN M. LISKO as strategic communications director, to lead the agency’s integrated consumer contact efforts for its business partners. He will also serve on the Saatchi Los Angeles Leadership Board.

  • ERICH FUNKE has joined BBDO Chicago as a senior vice president and group creative director overseeing the agency’s Jim Beam Bourbon and Whiskey brands. He was most recently a creative director with TBWA\Chiat\Day in Los Angeles.
