  • Iyana Sarrafieh
    Mistress
    Mistress hired Iyana Sarrafieh as director of social media, a new position. She reports to agency founding creative partner Damien Eley and is charged with leading the agency's social media practice. Sarrafieh began her career in New York as a social strategy, brand channel manager at Translation. Most recently, she served as associate director, social media at Deep Focus and a strategic planner and social media strategist at Zambezi, both in Los Angeles. She has worked on brands including Neutrogena, Samsung, Intel, Adidas/TaylorMade Golf, The Honest Company, Coca-Cola/fruitwater, State Farm and Bud Light Platinum.

    "As social become more and more core to the way we think, it's so crucial that we have a strong, experienced leader at the helm of our team. We're thrilled to welcome Iyana as our newest Mistress," said Eley. "Her work has been awarded by Cannes and Clio but more importantly changed the way consumers think about some of the world's most iconic brands."

  • Maria Smith
    M&C Saatchi LA
    M&C Saatchi LA promoted Maria Smith to executive creative director. Smith has been a creative director, associate creative director and copywriter for 12 years, nearly ten of them with M&C Saatchi LA.

    Smith began her creative career as a copywriter at TBWA\Tequila, with a focus on digital advertising. She then moved to TBWA\Chiat\Day, where she worked on Nissan, Infiniti, Sony and Energizer. While at M&C Saatchi, she has contributed to award-winning campaigns for the San Diego Zoo and Epson.

    "It's an incredibly exciting time to be stepping into this role," notes Smith. "We're living through a really interesting moment right now. We're in the middle of an election cycle unlike any other. The world is changing. And advertising is changing. A lot of people see a future that's full of challenges, but I also see it as full of opportunity. I'm looking forward to being at the forefront of that charge as ECD, and working alongside a passionate and talented team that's committed to taking M&C Saatchi to the next level."

  • David Patton, Howard Courtemanche and JJ Schmuckler
    Y&R
    Y&R named David Patton as global president, charged with operational leadership across the regions. Patton will join the agency in January 2017, based in London. Patton joins the agency from Grey Group, where he served as president and CEO of Grey EMEA and CEO of Grey UK prior to that.

    "I know that his enormous intellect and instincts make him a valued partner to clients and an inspiration to all who work with him," said David Sable, global CEO of Y&R. "He knows how to bring the best out of people and his innovative mindset always anticipates what we need to do to meet the challenges our clients will face in the future. He is focused, fearless and passionate."

    In addition, Sable launched a new global Healthcare practice and named Howard Courtemanche as president. Courtemanche joined Y&R several months ago, after serving as CEO of JWT's Health practice.

    Lastly, JJ Schmuckler, who has served as director of business development in North America, was promoted to global chief marketing officer, based out of New York. He succeeds Alex Hughes, who has moved to Washington, D.C., to lead Y&R's U.S. Census account. Schmuckler began his career at Wunderman in account management. He moved to Y&R, where he was chief of staff, and then to VML, where he led global integration efforts.

  • Lachlan Badenoch
    Carmichael Lynch
    Lachlan Badenoch joined Carmichael Lynch as chief strategy officer. He joins the agency from Minneapolis-based Zeus Jones, where he worked on Nestle, GMI and Purina. Before that, he was based in Paris directing global strategy for Publicis Groupe clients like Nestlé and Orange. Prior to that, he spent time at Fallon Minneapolis as planning director on the BMW, Brawny and Purina accounts. Badenoch began his strategy career at Leo Burnett London, where he worked on digital and branded entertainment projects for Heinz, Nintendo, McDonalds and Virgin.

  • Shannon Baker

    Pittsburgh-based marketing communications shop Gatesman+Dave, has promoted Shannon Baker to the role of president.

    In her new role, Baker is tasked with driving agency integration, collaboration and innovation for the agency’s diverse client roster which includes Del Monte, Hormel Foods, Foodland, UPMC Health System, and the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey franchise among others. 

    Baker joined the agency in 2007 and is credited with reeling in several million in new business income  and with landing major accounts such as Thorntons convenience stores, StarKist and Tobi Dynavox. Previously she was EVP and head of the agency's PR and social media units.
