Trib Combines Global Reporting, 'Houston Chronicle' Layoffs

International reporting ops will be consolidated at The Chicago Tribune and Los Angeles Times into a single unit, serving all of Tribune Co. Both newspapers have a long tradition of global reporting. The new unit will be run from Los Angeles, but no specifics about personnel have been announced. Separately, The Houston Chronicle is laying off approximately 12% of its employees -- about 90 people in the newsroom -- in an effort to reduce costs.
