Mr. Magazine Hands out Honors

  • January 31, 2001
Mr. Magazine has revealed his picks for "Launch of the Year" 2000, and for the first time in the 16-year history of this award, there were co-winners. Both American Profile and O, The Oprah Magazine, took home the honors.

Mr. Magazine (real name - Dr. Samir Husni) is a University of Mississippi journalism professor. Every year, he publishes a Guide to New Consumer Magazines and selects the 30 top launches (this years there were a total of 874 magazines launched). Out of the top 30, Husni picks a winner, or in this year’s case, winners. "Both magazines somehow embody the American dream at its best. O, The Oprah Magazine surrounds itself with celebrity and Madison Avenue buzz, while American Profile silently, but truly, demonstrates the power of big circulation without the lime lights," said Husni, who has researched magazines for more than two decades.

Mr. Magazine's Top 30 Launches of 2000:
