Media Diary Kelly Samardak

Social Medium, MediaPost

8:30 a.m. Wake up to the sound of NY1 on the HDTV. I love Pat Keirnan. While the coffee's brewing in my craptastic coffee maker, I grab my BlackBerry to check for messages. Yup, a missed BBMessenger blip from my pal Gail.

9:00 a.m. checking MediaPost email while drinking craptastic coffee. Email myself a to do list

10:00 a.m. Finish syncing iPod (added N.A.S.A and readded The Bird and The Bee), grab camera battery our of charger and stuff it in camera, snatch BlackBerry off the charger, head out for walk to work

10:00-10:27 a.m. Things I eyeball on the way to work:
>Hand written "we now sell beer" signs posted at Robin Raj Deli next to the handwritten "Women's Rogaine available" signs
>Handwritten "Circuit City closed ...FOREVER!" signs posted at the Union Square Circuit City
>BlackBerry buzzes me with my Google Calendar reminders for my two events tonight
>Twitter an event invitation to see if anyone I know from my NYC tech-writer-PR-just plain awesome network will be going
>22nd and Broadway DOOH subway advert marquee displayed something I can't remember

10:27 a.m. Pull SkullCandy ear bud out of my ear, say good morning to Howard the security dude, swipe my badge, and hit the elevator for Floor 4, MediaPost

10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Updated new project, got on the horn with IT to discuss what could be created in house and what would make better sense as a widget. Discovered one widget plops random ads on the page, thus making in-house development the better choice.

12:30 p.m. Check gmail for confirmation of dinner date with the dad - schooling him about social communications next week

1:00-2:00 p.m. Jump into the pool of event invitations, follow up, and nail down my March calendar. SXSWi has nothing on NYC - I don't think I'll even notice people missing since I'm double booked almost every day that week.

2:00-5:00 p.m. Crafting Twitter guidelines and strategies for upcoming events that could also double as help for people in the company. Listening to Pandora all the while. Check on MediaPost Facebook page - new look to pages mimics profile pages which reveals new opportunities for communication.

5:30 p.m. Head out of MP office to the Park and 28th St. 6 train. I laugh at moustaches and black teeth drawn on subway adverts. Inside the 6 train is that confusing Boost Mobile advert square "UN [words words words] 'D." Maybe I'm too old.

5:50 p.m. Pop off the train, walk right past The Four Seasons (location of launch party for the book Stealing MySpace), and check HopStop.com to see if I'm crazy. Call psychoanalyst to confirm that I am, indeed, crazy.

6:00 p.m. I'm at the party, underdressed, note my BB battery is dying just as I get a text from my +1, Gail Hilton, saying she's around the corner. I wander the room, taking photos with my swiftly dying Canon (it makes a reeeeeeeeeeet noise and blacks out sporadically)

7:00 p.m. Leave the Four Seasons, watch Gail peck away at her BlackBerry while I look at the directions I printed out from HopStop.com that should land us at East Broadway and Something Ave. We emerge to find ourselves totally turned around and confused, getting accurate directions from a potential meth addict. Either way, he was really directionally strong.

7:30 p.m.ish Enter Broadway East to find Yelpers Chantelle Karl and Keri Schundler (nee Moran) womanning the table. This was the kickoff party for Yelp's Beautiful Week - a party for the Yelp Elite (aka frequent yelpers who know the ins and outs of their neighborhoods - the restaurant/services news breakers and makers I suppose.)

7:30-8:40 p.m. Wander through the restaurant, talking to guests, taking pictures, snatching up food in a gaggle of vultures, freaked out by the black toilet (it makes it practically invisible), and checking out the media displayed on the big flat screen above the basement level bar area.

9:00 p.m. Hop in a cab, turn off the in cab adver-tv due to instant car sickness and head home.

9:30-12:00 a.m. Suck photos off camera onto laptop, watch downloaded version of Big Love, watch back-to-back Sex and the City reruns on TBS, fall asleep to Adult Swim. Before finally making it into the bed, one last look at Twitter, tuck the BlackBerry into it's charger for the night, get ready to start all over again.
