'Hollywood Reporter' Expands To Russia, China
As trade publications struggle stateside, The Hollywood Reporter said it has linked with a new venture seeking to distribute content overseas. The agreement will bring its entertainment coverage to television in Russia -- as well as in China -- in their respective languages.
The agreement has been signed with the newly formed Metan Development Group, which is billing itself as a venue for publications to expand their brands into new markets.
"The Hollywood Reporter," a daily 15-minute news program, will be hosted by local anchors in the two rapidly growing markets, but American reporters will also be used. (It was unclear whether subtitles would be used for their reports.) The Russian host is a model signed with the Ford agency.
The Hollywood Reporter -- part of Nielsen -- and Metan are co-producers. The parties said a "minimum of 20%" of the content will be "localized."
In addition to the daily show, other Reporter-branded content will be developed for these global markets, as well as specials.
Metan says part of the promise for publishers is an opportunity to sell advertising that reaches ethnic audiences.
