Yahoo Mobile Adds Nine Countries

  • June 16, 2009
Expanding its mobile presence, Yahoo has extended Yahoo Mobile (and the Yahoo iPhone app) to nine more countries: Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Australia, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Spain and Italy. The company's mobile service is now available in 17 countries across Europe, Asia and the Americas and on 400 devices with HTML-enabled mobile browsers.

Yahoo is in a battle with companies such as Google and Microsoft to be the gateway to the mobile Web by offering a suite of services including search, email, messaging, and social networking tools to cell users around the world. Underscoring the competition for mobile domination, Yahoo said Tuesday it had displaced Google as the default search provider for Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan's largest carrier. --Mark Walsh
