3Com Corp. plans to cut 3,000 jobs, or 30% of its work force, to help return the struggling network equipment operator to profitability. The cuts affect regular full-time employees, and the
alternative work force across most of the company's operations. It currently employs about 10,000 people. The latest cuts are part of the company's plan, announced in March, to save $1 billion and
become profitable next fiscal year. 3Com will also reorganize its business units to become more tightly focused.
