Niche Programming Gone Too Far?

  • December 5, 2000
As MediaLifeMagazine reported this morning, "it's safe to say that this whole niche-programming thing has gone too far." Reportedly, a former Ohio ad exec is trying to raise $1 million to fund an all-puppies cable station - not a pet-care network, but a soothing, meditative stream of puppies frolicking, eating and sleeping, all set to classical music. Media Life reported that the channel, which has been trying to make a go of it for the last four years, "has had trouble finding backing due to its bizarre concept. The channel's president, Dan FitzSimmons, admits he has no capital, no distribution and little product to put on the air. But he hopes to raise seed money by appealing to personal investors through recent press releases and his website www.thepuppychannel.com."
