Red Herring Cuts Jobs

New Economy magazine Red Herring on Thursday laid off 54 workers, or 20% of its staff, as it continued to dismantle an expansion undertaken during last year's blitz in technology advertising.

The San Francisco-based magazine made the cuts throughout all its departments, including its newsroom.

The firings mark the third round of cutbacks made by Red Herring since last fall. The magazine now has 212 workers, down from about 320 employees eight months ago.
