MeasureCast Index Down This Week

MeasureCast, Inc. today said that WarpRadio.com was the leading Internet radio group based on the total number of hours streamed -- or total time spent listening (TTSL) -- during the week of June 25 to July 1.

Stations belonging to the WarpRadio.com group streamed a total of 312,402 hours last week. In second place was SurferNETWORK, with a TTSL of 235,895. CableMusic.com took third place with a TTSL of 226,279. Internet Radio, Inc. secured the fourth position with a TTSL of 168,701, and MEDIAmazing.com claimed fifth place with a TTSL of 137,803.

For the week, the top five streaming music networks turned in a combined TTSL of 1,081,080.

Meanwhile, the MeasureCast Internet Radio Index dipped 3% last week from 184 to 177, meaning the total number of hours streamed by online broadcasters measured by MeasureCast has increased 77% since January.

The weekly index tracks the total number of hours streamed by on-line broadcasters, and is a representation of the trend in TTSL across a spectrum of stations measured by MeasureCast.

Eighteen of the MeasureCast Top 25 stations were Internet-only broadcasters. Among the 25 comparable stations from the previous week's ranking, seven saw TTSL increases, and 13 enjoyed an increase in estimated unique listeners, or CUME. Significant increases in TTSL were made by AliceOnAir.com (up 55%); BroadcastURBAN.com's WHUR-FM (up 33%); and Cablemusic.com's Top 40 station (up 25%).

Other facts for the week of June 25 - July 1:

- 78% of all listening occurred between 5 a.m. Pacific and 5 p.m. Pacific.

- The peak listening hour was noon Pacific, with 8.4% of the day's listening.

- 12% of the week's TTSL took place over the weekend.

- The peak listening day was Wednesday, with 18% of all TTSL occurring on this day.

- The largest single age group listening to Internet radio last week: 25-34 year-olds (30%)

- 56% of listeners are under 35; 26% are younger than 25, and 6% are over 55.

- 70.5% of listeners were men; 29.5% were women.

- Top streaming nations include the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, and Mexico.

- The South and the West of the U.S. have the greatest number of streaming media consumers.
