Layoffs Hit CNBC, MSNBC

Facing a soft ad market, CNBC and its sister network MSNBC are looking to cut costs. Although a CNBC spokesman said that "There's nothing planned at this time," sources inside the company told Reuters that CNBC will lay off about 15 staffers in the next two weeks. The financial news cable channel, which employs about 500, has already reduced its staff earlier this year. Meanwhile, MSNBC, a joint venture between NBC and Microsoft, plans to implement "serious" cost cutting. An MSNBC spokesman confirmed that "we're examining all costs not related to the core product of breaking news."
