Casual Gamer PlayFirst Has Another $9.2 M To Play With

Casual game maker PlayFirst has raised $9.2 million in Series C funding from Mayfield Fund, Trinity Partners, Comerica Bank, DCM and Rustic Canyon Ventures. Launched in 2004, PlayFirst makes both mobile and social games to run on PCs and Macs, as well as iPhones, iPads and Facebook. One game, Diner Dash, along with its sister titles Cooking Dash and Wedding Dash, attracted over 100 million "play sessions" in 2010 alone, according to Vator News. "It's also garnered more than half-a-billion downloads."

The San Francisco-based startup markets a combination of free and paid games. Diner Dash, for instance, costs $2.99 on the iTunes app store. As Vator News notes, "Charging for games is a different model than its biggest competitor, Zynga, which relies on virtual goods and advertising revenue." Include this most recent round, PlayFirst has now raised about $31 million. According to Vator, Comerica's $4 million portion of the Series C round came in the of debt financing.
