Apple Adds Social Playlists To Ping

Late last week, its iTunes-only website Ping added a new Social Playlists feature which lets users create lists of favorite songs, which they can then publish for followers to rate, review, and collaboratively edit. Why? "Although iPad integration and Twitter connectivity was [sic] added last month, Ping still lacks Facebook connectivity for finding friends or sharing music socially," according to ReadWriteWeb. What's more, as ReadWriteWeb's Marshall Kirkpatrick previously explained, the Ping user experience is "totally focused on commerce not community." Meanwhile, according to a recent article from music technology blog Hypebot, Ping only has around 2,000 artists on board compared to iTunes' 160 million users.
