As Harry Potter fans counted down the hours until the fifth instalment in the series is published, Hitwise reports that the launch has contributed to an overwhelming increase in traffic to Amazon and the book sector in the UK. Amazon.co.uk has seen traffic to its site increase by a staggering 49% in just under 3 weeks, as the hype of Harry Potter And The Order of The Phoenix gripped the nation. Harry Potter mania has likewise contributed to a sharp rise in overall traffic to the book sector, which has risen by 40% since the beginning of June. The official Harry Potter website www.harrypotter.com has also benefited, with traffic increasing by over 70% in this period. And the demographics of visitors to the website reveals that Harry Potter is loved by children and adults alike - 33% of visitors were aged between 35 and 44.
