For many decades, New York daily newspaper El Diario/La Prensa, one of America's oldest Spanish-language publications, didn't have a website. Until Jan. 1, that is, when the 90-year-old company
finally launched www.eldiariony.com. According to Rossana Rosado, El Diario's former editor and now publisher, said the delay was a question of priorities and budget issues at the newspaper, which
boasts a circulation of 73,000, and is a unit of Santa Monica, Calif.-based Entravision Communications. The website will compete with El Nuevo Herald of Miami, online since 1996; La Opinión of Los
Angeles, online since 2000; and El Diario's main local competitor, Hoy, online since January 2001.
