Modine to Star as Baseball Legend

  • July 22, 2003
Golden Globle winner and Emmy nominee Matthew Modine is set to star as real-life baseball legend Honus Wagner in The Winning Season, an upcoming original film from Turner Network Television and Johnson & Johnson. It will air as a Johnson & Johnson Spotlight Presentation on TNT next spring. Joe Stoshack is a 12-year-old baseball fanatic who finds a mint condition Honus Wagner baseball card, only to discover that is more than the world's most valuable card - it is also a granter of wishes. Through it, Joe goes back to the 1909 World Series on an amazing journey that will change his and Honus' lives forever. Modine will pay the former Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop, who is one of the Baseball Hall of Fame's five original inductees. The two-hour film is produced by Rosemont Productions in association with MAGNA Global Entertainment and Viacom Productions. David A. Rosemont will executive-produce the film from a script by Steven L. Bloom, based on the book Honus and Me by Dan Gutman. John Kent Harrison (What the Deaf Man Heard, TNT's You Know My Name) will direct.
