Facebook Flubs Have Real-World Costs

In another case of Facebook unleashing its wrath on an unsuspecting user, some 16-year-old girl in Germany mistakenly invited over 15,000 "friends" to her birthday party after forgetting to set the privacy settings on the invitation. The mistake began when the birthday girl, identified as Thessa, published an invitation meant to invite only a few friends over to her house," reports The NY Daily News.

"Instead, 15,000 people checked that they would be there -- and her parents promptly cancelled the party." Despite the cancellation, more than 1,500 guests and 100 police officers showed up to the party. As The Daily News notes, this isn't the first time that a Facebook flub has resulted in potentially riotous results.

Last year, 14-year-old Rebecca Javeleau had to call off her birthday party after more than 21,000 people clicked "yes" on her invitation. Last February, a family in England came home to find their home trashed after their 15-year-old daughter advertised a small party for her friends, and over 50 people showed up.
