IEEE Spectrum Up In Ad Revenue

Since its relaunch in January 2001, the new IEEE Spectrum Magazine has outpaced other technology magazines in ad revenue by a margin of nearly two to one. It is virtually the only magazine in the technology category that's up in ad pages and revenue in the face of the 20% to 60% revenue declines being experienced by other technology/business titles.

Advertising revenue in the technology magazine industry as a whole is down over 4% from this time a year ago, according to the Publishers Information Bureau. However, IEEE Spectrum's first quarter advertising revenue is up 19% over the first quarter of 2000. Additionally, according to the Media Industry Newsletter's Monthly Boxscores, IEEE Spectrum's ad revenue is 30% higher this month than in March of last year. This figure is particularly noteworthy when compared to the status of other technology magazines for the month of March.
