CBS Pulls David Letterman Off Radio

  • February 19, 2003
After nearly three months of simulcasting CBS-TV’s Late Show with David Letterman on more than a dozen CBS radio stations across the country, the network has pulled the show off the radio. CBS blames payments due union staff members who work on the show. “It was great programming and it was a huge success, but the residual payments that had to be paid to the Director’s Guild of America made the show cost prohibitive,” says CBS spokesman Dana McClintock. The Letterman show was simulcast on a number of CBS/Infinity radio stations, including WNEW New York, KLSX Los Angeles, and WCKG Chicago. Although it was the first CBS-TV show to be simulcast on its radio stations on a nightly basis, it is believed that other TV shows are being looked at for radio distribution. CBS’ 60 Minutes airs on several Infinity-owned news and talk stations.
