Dunkin' Donuts Hops On 'Today' Show Anniversary

  • January 10, 2012

Dunkin’ Donuts has multiple tie-ins with this week’s on-air celebration of the 60th anniversary of NBC’s “Today” show.

From Jan. 9 to 15, the QSR is offering customers a special “Today Donut” – its yeast ring topped with vanilla icing and sprinkles in the red, orange and yellow colors of the show’s logo.

On Monday, Jan. 9, Stan Frankenthaler, Dunkin’ Brands executive chef/VP of product innovation, presented a special, three-foot-tall cake (made of the Today donuts and Dunkin’s Munchkin donut holes) on-air to the show’s anchors and crew.

The brand is also running a Twitter-driven sweepstakes.  Fans who tweet their guesses as to how many Today donuts and Munchkins were used to create the special cake to @dunkindonuts, using hashtag #DDonutCake, are entered into a random drawing to win a $60 Dunkin’ Donuts Card.

In addition, Dunkin’s’ “Behind the Beans” blog is offering instructions on how to make a mini “Today” cake at home.

“Today,” launched on Jan. 13, 1952, has been America’s #1 morning news program for 16 straight years. –Karlene Lukovitz
