Hachette Filipacchi Media has named Philippe Guelton chief operating officer and executive VP of its North American division. He will report to CEO/president Jack Kliger, who had been handling the
day-to-day operations. “I want to concentrate on the strategic direction of the company in the U.S., and the timing is right for me to fill the COO position,” said Kliger. Guelton has been the CEO of
Hachette’s North Asian operations since 2001 where he over saw the publisher’s 25 high end Japanese and Korean titles, including regional versions of
Elle,
Elle Décor, and
Premiere. He first moved to Hachette’s Japanese offices in 1997, when the company bought the Japanese publisher Fujingaho. Guelton’s appointment takes effect April 15.
