Staples Posts Stronger Sales

Staples says its fourth-quarter sales rose 1% to $6.5 billion, while net income rose 3% to $284 million. Sales in North America were stronger, though, with comparable store sales in the U.S. rising 2.6% “reflecting higher average order size and a slight increase in customer traffic,” the Framingham, Mass.-based company says, its best performance since 2009. Sales in its international division fell 5% in U.S. dollars.
