Reed Business Information has promoted Charlie Koones to executive vice president of Variety and Daily Variety. The post also encompasses responsibility for sister titles Broadcasting & Cable and Multichannel News. Koones, who remains the publisher of Variety and Daily Variety, has been charged with growing the company's entertainment and television presence, according to a Reed press release. Media division president Tad Smith, however, stressed that the editorial voices of all the publications reporting to Koones will remain separate and distinct. Koones joined Variety in 1990 as a sales executive. He was named associate publisher in 1995 and became U.S. publishing director, with responsibility for Variety's domestic business operations, in 1997. Most recently, he was group vice president and publisher of Variety, a post that included oversight of the Variety franchise's global business operations.
