Profits Up At Levi Strauss On Lower Ad Spending

Despite the squeeze of high cotton prices, Levi Strauss says its revenues rose 4% in the first quarter, to $1.17 billion. And net income zipped up 21% to $49 million, helped along by lower advertising costs. On a constant currency basis, sales rose 9% in the Americas, and 5% in the Asia-Pacific region, while falling 7% in Europe.
