Bob Garfield, long-time advertising and media industry columnist, critic, author, essayist, pundit, international lecturer and co-host of National Public Radio’s Peabody Award-winning “On the Media” series has joined MediaPost as an editor-at-large. Garfield’s columns will appear regularly in various MediaPost publications, and he will also play prominent public speaking roles in the publishing company’s conferences and events.
“Providing our readers with the best opinion, commentary and criticism has always been part of MediaPost’s mission and I can’t think of anyone who does that better than Bob Garfield,” said Ken Fadner, chairman and publisher of MediaPost. “Whether it was his long-running ‘AdReview,' his big-picture stories for Advertising Age, or his coverage of media industry movers and shakers on NPR’s ‘On the Media,’ no journalist has better defined the zeitgeist of our industry.”
Concurrent with his move to MediaPost, Garfield is leaving his association with Advertising Age, but will continue his other writing and public speaking roles, including his bi-weekly column for The Guardian, and co-host of “On the Media,” as well as his ongoing role as a network TV commentator.
“It’s a rare privilege for an editor to have the opportunity to work with a writer as talented as Bob, and now I get to do it a second time,” said Joe Mandese, editor-in-chief of MediaPost, who previously worked with Garfield at Advertising Age. “But all his professionalism and talent aside, I just get a kick out of being associated with him. As he just said to me before I wrote this announcement story, ‘Let’s have fun.’ It’s working already.”
