REAL Magazine Looking For 'Real' Models

  • March 18, 2004
REAL magazine, a new title that bills itself as "the premiere source of practical, personal and real-life information for women," will debut its Los Angeles REAL Woman Model Search on May 17. The searches, which are scheduled for a host of metropolitan areas across the U.S., are designed to find women of all sizes, races and ages. Winners will be featured on the pages of the mag.

"What we see in the fashion magazines and on the runways of Paris and Milan may be entertaining, but has nothing to do with the lives of 99 percent of today's women," said REAL publisher Tony Golden in a press release. "It only reinforces what most women think they are not: tall enough, thin enough, rich enough. I call other publications 'someday' pubs: someday I'll be rich enough to buy that, someday I'll be thin enough to wear that, someday I'll have time to travel there."

REAL magazine will debut in June. Winners of the searches will also receive a $1,000 American Express gift certificate and gift baskets from select advertisers.
