'Backpacker,' Climbing' Name Publisher, Editor

Michael Byrne has been promoted to publisher of Backpacker. He was previously national advertising director. Before that, he had held management posts at Rodale and Gannett. Also, Shannon Davis has been promoted to editor of Climbing, and outgoing editor Dougald MacDonald is now an editor at large. Davis had been senior editor at Backpacker in charge of its destination coverage. Both magazines are owned by Active Interest Media.
