Facebook just rolled out some privacy features aimed at improving users' ability to control personal data.

Among other revisions, some Facebook apps are now going to give users a choice about whether to post activity to their accounts. "For example," the company says, "a person can grant a music app the ability to read their public profile and friends list to personalize their experience in the app, but decline to allow it to post what they listen to to Facebook on their behalf." Facebook users also can now remove their tags from multiple photos at once.

None of those changes are likely to prove controversial, but one revision might not meet with enthusiasm. Facebook is plans to stop offering users a way to control whether they could be found through its own search bar. "The setting was very limited in scope, and didn't prevent people from finding others in many other ways across the site," the company says. "Because of the limited nature of the setting, we removed it for people who weren’t using it, and have built new, contextual tools, along with education about how to use them. In the coming weeks, we’ll be retiring this setting for the small percentage of people who still have it."
