It's Official: Holiday '12 Was A Letdown
The National Retail Federation has finished its final assessment of the holiday season, concluding that total holiday sales gained 3%, not the 4.1% percent it had forecast. Even online sales were a bit of a letdown, with an 11.1% gain, short of the 12% forecast by Shop.org, the NRF’s online arm. The Washington D.C.-based trade group chalked the difference up to consumer concerns about the fiscal cliff and economic uncertainty. Even with hot new phones and tablets, it says electronics and appliance stores’ sales eased 0.4% year-over-year.
