Seth Beats Billy: 2013 Oscars Ratings Up Over Last Year's
In preliminary tracking, ratings for last night's Seth MacFarlane-hosted Oscars telecast beat 2011's Billy Crystal-hosted show, with a 12.1, "up 19% from last year’s fast nationals (of 10.7).
The 2012 telecast was ultimately adjusted up to an 11.7," writes Matt Webb Mitovich on YahooTV.
Those numbers won't be adjusted to include the extra eyeballs brought in by online streaming of the entire show, now available through Wednesday on various sites including ABC.com and Hulu -- a
first for any awards broadcast, reports Deadline.com's Nellie Adreeva.
Critical
response to the show was mixed, though leaning more toward the negative. We're not familiar with MacFarlane's um, oeuvre, so we found this helpful: Alan Sepinwall explained the problems with the
"conflicted, bloated, song-heavy show" as partly "a battle for supremacy between Frat Boy Seth and Old-Time Hollywood Seth." Also helpful: learning that the show's producers also produced the
11-year-old movie "Chicago," which earned "two separate tributes," as Sepinwall writes.
