Sports Fans Like Tech
Sports and technology go hand in hand. According to a study from the Consumer Electronics Association, nearly two-thirds of self-described sports “super fans” consider themselves to be early adopters as well.
According to the research, super fans, who were defined as the most sports-oriented consumer segment are the most likely to engage with sports-related activities on their mobile devices. Nearly half (46%) were likely to download a sports-related app, and 43% were likely to watch highlights on a cell phone or smartphone. They’re also more likely to purchase smartphones, tablets and HDTVs with 3D capabilities in the next two years.
According to the study, sports fans were very interested in mobile television, with nearly half of them saying they were specifically interested in watching the NCAA basketball tournament on their phones. Not surprisingly, basketball fans were the most interested, with 68% saying they were interested watching sports on their mobile devices, compared with 30% of all sports fans.
