SEC Proposes End To 'Quiet Period,' May Allow Ads For Public Offerings

In a move that could pave the way for a dynamic new advertising category, the Securities and Exchange Commission has proposed eliminating its so-called "quiet period" rules prohibiting companies from touting themselves to investors prior to a public stock offering. If ratified, the rules change could allow companies registered for public offerings to promote their value to investors via advertising.
