Apple said it sold 9 million of the its new 5S and 5C iPhones in the first weekend of sales. "This is our best iPhone launch yet -- more than 9 million new iPhones sold -- a new record for first weekend sales," said Apple CEO Time Cook in a statement. More than 200 million devices are also now running the new iOS 7 operating system. Because demand for the flagship 5S model has outstripped supply, Apple said many online orders are scheduled to be shipped in the coming weeks. The 5S is more than three times as popular as the 5C, according to data released by Localytics tracking new iPhone activations. The gold-colored 5S has proven an especially big seller globally.
