The ad industry will generate $5.2 trillion in direct and indirect U.S. spending in 2005, an increase of 4 percent over the ad industry's contribution to U.S. economic activity in 2004, according to "Comprehensive Economic Impact of Advertising Expenditures," a report compiled by Global Insight for the Advertising Coalition, a group representing leading trade associations including the American Association of Advertising Agencies and the Association of National Advertisers. That's a noteworthy expansion considering that 2005 follows a year of incremental ad spending from the Olympics and political campaigns that will not be present in 2005. A story in Tuesday's edition of MediaDailyNews incorrectly reported the ad industry's contribution to the U.S. economy.
