Rolling Stone Editor/publisher, Jann Wenner is attempting to modernize his 35-year-old pop culture bible. It seems the old guard, which established Rolling Stone's design and editorial sensiblity throughout the 1990s, and even earlier, is moving on. Ed Needham, the newly named managing editor of Rolling Stone who joined from FHM, has accepted the resignation of longtime fashion director PATTI O'BRIEN, a 13-year Rolling Stone veteran. Also, photo editor FIONA MCDONAGH, who has been with the magazine since early 2001, has been let go. JODI PECKMAN, former deputy photo editor of Rolling Stone from 1993-97, and current photo editor of Emap's FHM, is said to have been poached from the men's monthly to succeed McDonagh. A replacement for O'Brien has not been named. FRED WOODWARD, RS' art director for the past 14 years, resigned last fall to join GQ and has since been replaced by ANDY COWLES, most recently art director of defunct Mademoiselle, and before that of Brit music titles Q and Mojo. Needham replaced Robert Love, who was managing editor for the past four-and-a-half years and at Rolling Stone for a total of 20.
