Fields Vows Ford Will Not Be Another Shell For Apple And Google Code

Phone makers, like the PC makers, learned the dangers of a common OS: it shoves them into the technology coal bin of the hardware business. Ford CEO Mark Fields said his company isn’t about to let that happen by letting Apple or Google be the owner of mobile technology in the car space. “At the end of the day we don’t want to end up as the handset business,” he said, in an interview at Ford's Palo Alto, Calif. technology lab.  Yes Ford is supporting both Google’s Android Auto and Apple’s CarPlay, but those systems are only allowed to be a secondary interface to a primary navigation system.
